I consider this music video to be a bit of a “love letter” to the new Oceanian Data Centers, of which Materia is the first. The servers of this data center are primarily intended for players in Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and parts of the Western Pacific. I found myself playing fairly actively there after I was invited to journey there and help start both a branch of The Velvet Room on Materia/Sophia, and generally do what I could to help encourage the local roleplaying and venue-based community. It was an opportunity to join a fresh server and community, and build things “from the ground up.”

Thus far my time on the Materia DC has been quite pleasant, and I find myself spending about as much time there as I spend on my “main” server, Aether/Faerie. I even started my own small venue, Nautilus, on Materia/Sophia. You will see that establishment in future music videos. These new data centers really are amazing places to play Final Fantasy XIV. The communities are new and developing. Many of the players are new. The economy isn’t saturated with omnicrafters yet, and there are a limited number of venues. There are many opportunities to make a difference, opportunities which might not exist on other servers which have had years to develop. I haven’t even noticed much of a “ping” issue (I’m personally based on the west coast of the USA). All in all, I highly recommend playing on the Materia Data Center, with Sophia being my personal favorite server of the bunch, as it has developed into Materia’s unofficial roleplaying server.
