7 Reasons to Play SAMURAI! The KING of BIG DPS

Samurai quickly rose to becoming one of my favorite DPS in all of Final Fantasy XIV after initial impressions left me going meh whatever. I could not have been more wrong. Samurai is an absolute rush to play and never disappoints.

7 reasons to play samurai has come to the field and this is a job that I’ve truly enjoyed. If I had to give an elevator pitch on the samurai I’d say this.

Big DPS with no frills, no esoteric gimmicks and total agency over their own output in a group. Samurai has clear inputs and outputs that when you are outputting your rotation absolutely feels mind blowingly great to play with massive numbers slamming the gas on the dopamine. Samurai is just massive dopamine hit after dopamine hit. It’s a complete joy to play.

Reason 1 is that with samurai the dopamine just does not stop flowing. Everything you do on samurai feels weighty, powerful and the numbers you’re slamming out are absolutely beyond incredible.

And I kid you not when I say this is my number one reason, I’ve raved on this channel for years how amazing reassemble drill feels on machinist with that extreme burst. Samurai does that over and over and over again.

Midare setsugekka into an immediate tsubame-gaeshi for kaeshi setsugekka both just doing disgusting amounts of damage. Then you pop ogi namikiri into kaeshi namikiri which is just… genuinely breathtakingly powerful feeling.

I remember when I first saw the trailer of samurai for endwalker I didn’t see the wow factor of this, but holy do I feel that playing it. OH and yes there is more. Shoha feels weighty too even though it’s an off GCD and hissatsu senei slamming down 800 potency in one go is …

Okay I’m sure everyone gets it by now but this is my number one reason I love samurai cause God above created my teeny tiny monkey brain to absolutely be thrilled at these massive girthy numbers. And samurai delivers them.

Oh yeah and to finish this point the cast times actually only add to my personal excitement. Sure they can be annoying to others, I’ve heard that a bit, but to me? It’s the naughty fun before diving right in, it only adds to how good it feels.

Reason 2 is that the samurai brings big damage. Not only are the numbers appearing and feeling weighty and big, but samurai is also the absolute top dog of all jobs in final fantasy 14 at the time of making this video. And yes that is raid DPS so that accounts for buffs other jobs bring before I get comments about that. Samurai is the absolute peak of DPS right now and has the absolute biggest of big dps. While I don’t think this should necessarily sway people because balancing changes can and do happen. I’d be lying if I didn’t say this felt absolutely fantastic and was a huge huge pro to myself personally.

Big DPS and dabbing on everyone feels good.

Reason 3 is on samurai I feel like I have more agency, I feel like I have more control over what I am personally contributing. Or another way to put it is the entire notion of I don’t need to share my DPS contributions to the party with anyone else. And that is massively hugely appealing and actually shockingly rare in 14. Black mage, machinist and samurai are the only DPS jobs that truly do not share DPS with the party and that’s a fantastic thing.

What that means is I am, respectfully, subjected to some depraved things in my groups. Many deaths, people not doing rotations properly people eating damage down debuffs and vuln stacks like they are candy.

Samurai takes full responsibility over their DPS and that’s just nice. This also is one reason why samurai has and remains one of my top priorities to buff with cards or dragon sight. Funnily enough extremely well played dark knights and yes dark knight the tank is up there too. But one of my 5% single target buffs will go so much father on samurai than say a bard or dragoon.

A well geared samurai that knows a fight that knows their rotation that is using potions and consumables will massively outperform and contribute more to beating an enrage timer than a job like dragoon that is giving away it’s own DPS to team members I described before
